Aberdaron Stroll down to the village where there is a lovely sandy beach with stunning views of the two small islands known as the 'Isle of Gulls'. A perfect spot to relax and for children to build sandcastles and potter about. The large balcony of the Ty Newydd Hotel overlooks the beach - contemplate the views while eating renowned locally caught crab and lobster. Enjoy the culinary skills of the cook at the Ship Hotel or have morning coffee at 'Y Gegin Fawr' (the big kitchen) a medieval hostelry or fish and chips at the smart new chippie. Buy locally at the small SPAR which supplies local meat and fresh fruit and vegetables, buy bread and cakes at the thatched roof bakery. Visit the National Trust visitors centre next to the beach and learn the history of this unique area. Beaches Many lovely beaches close . Aberdaron beach right in the village. Whistling Sands(NT) only a couple of miles up the coast a delightful bay where children will delight in the fact that the sands really do whistle! Find your perfect cove when walking the Coastal Path, Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn beaches are an easy drive. Walk down to the smugglers cove at Porthdinllaen and enjoy a drink at the water's edge at the famous Ty Coch Inn voted the 3rd most popular beach bar in the World! Visit Abersoch with wide sandy beaches excellent shops and lively restaurants and ever popular Llanbedrog Beach(NT) with candy coloured beach huts. Wander up from here to Plas Gl;yn y Weddw Wales's oldest art gallery with its conservatory tea rooms - eat out on the lawns on fine days or wander in the woodlands. The amphitheatre in the grounds show films and plays during the Summer season. Pilgrims Way Older guests may enjoy following the footsteps of Medieval pilgrims who made their way to Aberdaron and onto their destination of Bardsey Island. Dotted along the way are many small churches. Worth visiting are Llangwnadl look out for the turning to Porth Colmon, this is a delightful early Tudor church set in a small wooded gully I stopped here on a perfect May morning and was enchanted by the graveyard bursting with Spring flowers, trees just coming into leaf and a riot pf birdsong - pure bliss! Northward along the Peninsula is the tiny church of Pistyll 3 miles north of Nefyn this 12th Century church open in the Summer its floors strewn with straw and walls adorned with medical herbs as in the times of pilgrimage. If driving up towards Caernarfon the imposing large church at Clynnog Fawr is worth visiting also this was the main assembly point for pilgrims for the last stretch of their journey. In Aberdaron itself the church stands precariously on the cliff edge a special spot notice the Norman archway at its entrance all that remains of the original church. Bardsey Island Enjoy a sea trip across and view the historic ruins of the 13th Century Abbey and 18th Century lighthouse. The abundance of bird life flora and fauna. Plas yn Rhiw (NT) A small manor house 3 miles south of the village with impressive views across Cardigan Bay even down to Strumble Head in good weather. The restored gardens with old English roses,herbaceous borders bursting with colour. This is a perfect house for families and friends who wish to get away from the madding crowd to enjoy and explore this unique area.
