PembrokeA 5-minute stroll from the cottage takes you into the centre of Pembroke’s historic town with its magnificent Norman Castle and great selection of cafes, pubs and shops. There are scenic walks nearby including one around the picturesque millpond with its resident swans, herons and ducks. Explore the Shops and antique centres on the High Street, and then stop for food at one of the many cafes. 'The Cornstore' overlooking the waterway with its unique range of furniture/fancy goods has an extremely good coffee shop. Enjoy a locally soured breakfast or lunch at Food at Williams, or further along Lunch at No.40 is also popular. In the evening The Kings Arms serves up tasty Tapas dishes – perfect for sharing. Pembroke CastleFamous as the birthplace of Henry VII and set high on a ridge, Pembroke Castle is one of Pembrokeshire’s finest castles. It makes for an interesting half day visit with visitors rewarded with a fascinating insight into the medieval life style as well as a look around the impressive 5 storey Keep, maze of tunnels and interesting indoor displays. The café has a good selection of food and drink to refresh you. Bosherston and Bosherston Lily Ponds (NT)Take a walk around Bosherston's beautiful lily ponds, a breathtaking sight when the lilies are in full bloom during June and July. This is a wild life haven all year round and you may even be lucky enough to spot an Otter. No visit to Bosherston village is complete without tea at ‘The Olde Worlde Café’. Owned and run by Aunty Vi - a true local legend, with a café menu unchanged for over 70 years! There is also a a pub, St Govans’s Inn (good bar food) and 2 miles to the south, nestled between the steep cliffs of the south Pembrokeshire coastline is St Govan’s Chapel which is free to visit, although the only access is down steep steps carved into the side of the cliff. Count the number of steps down – tradition has it that it will be a different count on the return climb!South Pembrokeshire Beach DaysBarafundle is the ' jewel in the crown' of Pembrokeshire' s beaches - golden sands lapped by clear, blue sea and ringed by dunes. Broad Haven South is a superb, sheltered beach overlooked by cliffs – its popular for swimming and surfing. Magnificent Freshwater West beach was the chosen location for filming the Shell House scene from the Harry Potter story Deathly Hallows and the battle scene for Robin Hood. Freshwater East beach shouldn't be missed either. Its sandy beach is backed by dunes and is popular for surfing, wind surfing, sailing, fishing and swimming. Tenby and Caldey IslandThe jewel in South Pembrokeshire’s coastline with its 3 blue flag beaches, interesting gift, craft and bric a brac shops, restaurants, pubs and Tudor Merchants House (NT) – a fascinating glimpse into times gone by. Book a boat trip from its picturesque harbour to the famous monastic island of Caldy – a truly lovely relaxing day out for all the family. CarewStroll around the picturesque, historic village of Carew nestled beside the river with its magnificent castle, celtic cross, restored tidal mill and the Carew Inn a family friendly pub serving good food and real ales. HaverfordwestIf there are children to entertain, a great day out whatever the weather is sometimes needed. BP Karting has an indoor track to provide fun for the whole family (over 8 years) and competitive racing great fun to watch.
