Overbutton Cottage is a hidden gem, nestling between two neighbouring terraced cottages, tucked away down a lane in the pretty village of Gattonside, just over the River Tweed from Melrose. The cosy living room has a wood burner and a comfy sofa to relax on after a lovely day discovering the beautiful Scottish Borders, hill walking in the Eildon Hills or strolling along the River Tweed. There are lovely views of the Eildon Hills from the cottage and enclosed garden, which has a sitting-out area and bike store. Just a few minutes’ walk away there are two great restaurants, and a short stroll over the chain-bridge is Melrose, where there is a wide selection of pubs, restaurants, galleries and independent shops, not to mention the 12th-century abbey. There is so much to do locally including fishing, cycling and golf, or take the train from Tweedbank, 2 miles, into Edinburgh for a carefree day in the city. Doggy day care is available by arrangement with the owner, at a cost. Shop 2¼ miles (1 mile on foot), restaurant 300 yards, pub ¾ mile.
