Dunoon is the main town of the Cowal peninsula and the south-western gateway to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, making it an ideal base for those wishing to explore this beautiful area. Local attractions include Castle House Museum and Gardens, the Bishop’s Glen, Dunoon Ceramics and Morag’s Fairy Glen. Take a steamer cruise and explore the hills and lochs of the Cowal Peninsula, or try the abundance of outdoor activities that are on offer which include sailing, sea fishing, windsurfing, fast speed RIB boat tours, quad bikes, clay shooting and more. The Kyles of Bute is a short ferry crossing from Colintraive and the beautiful sandy beach at Kilbride Bay should not be missed. The Arrochar Alps in northern Cowal offer some of the finest hill walking in the Southern Highlands, whilst the Cowal Way and the walks at Kilmun Arboretum and Loch Eckside are highly recommended. The October walking festival, known as Cowalfest is now firmly established as a highlight of the year in the Cowal calendar. There are also cultural and social events to accompany this event, which usually lasts about 10 days, a ’must’ for walkers. The magnificent Benmore Botanic Gardens near Lock Eck are well worth a visit and there is an abundance of wildlife. Dunoon boasts a swimming pool and leisure centre, golf club, tennis, bowling, and an extensive scenic promenade. There are also a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Shop, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
