Set back behind the many pubs and bespoke shops and cafés, it is a great location for spoiling yourself with a few drinks and lovely food in one of the local restaurants and bistros. There are some beautiful walks round Tynemouth, including a lovely walk along the seafront with views of the sandy beaches. The promenade takes you to North Shields and the historic quayside, host to the Tall Ships race.

A short walk from the door is dramatic Tynemouth Castle and Priory, which dates back centuries. The statue of Lord Collingwood looks across the river in honour of the local born admiral who took over from Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar. Longsands beach is a nationally recognised water sports hub, and surfers flock here to enjoy the spectacular waves. Nearby, the Blue Reef Aquarium provides family fun, and Tynemouth Park has a dinosaur-themed mini golf course with pedalo boats on the lake. The nearby metro station, only a short walk, has been restored to Victorian splendour, and has been named the ’Covent Garden of the North’, with lovely weekend markets and events. Walk a mile or so further, and the pretty bay in Cullercoats has some nice little cafés to stop off in, or you can carry on walking to Whitley Bay with more golden sands and larger shops.

Collingwood Loft is perfectly located for exploring the whole of Northumberland, Tyneside and Durham, with easy access to many of the roads leading to the top tourist spots in the county. Travel further north up to the beautiful Heritage Coast, where a visit to Alnwick, with its famous castle and cobbled streets, should not be missed. Travel west to Hadrian’s Wall, where you can stop at a Roman fort or look at the famous tree ’Sycamore Gap’, featured in the film ’Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’. Take the metro to the vibrant city of Newcastle, where you can admire the grand historic architecture or wander along the quayside, perhaps popping into the Baltic for the wonderful views. Collingwood Loft is a wonderful location for travelling round the whole of the north east, with the added benefit of leaving your car at the door should you choose some relaxing down time. Beach 700 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 90 yards.
