A great size for families, this beautiful authentic fisherman’s cottage boasts wooden beams throughout, with wooden panelling as well as views over the harbour and out to sea. Stepping inside, at the front of the house you have the living room, with an open fire ensuring your evenings are always toasty. The dining room is adjoining, with a wood burner in the exposed brick fireplace, with a long table so everyone can be seated together. A step down takes you into the well-equipped kitchen. There is a split staircase, leading you to each side of the house. At one side of the house you have a twin bedroom with an en-suite shower on the first floor, then up on the second floor you have a fabulous bunk room, with a raised mezzanine and a window seat looking out over the sea. On the other side of the house you have a characterful kingsize bedroom with the original cast iron fireplace, then up on the second floor you have a spacious double bedroom under the high vaulted ceiling, with an en-suite bathroom. As you relax in the bathtub, you can take in the views from the quaint little window over the sea.
At low tide here in Staithes there is a small sandy bay in the harbour, at high tide the sea comes up to the sea wall, with small fishing boats bobbing in the water. You are only steps away from the popular village pub and restaurant, which is perched on the harbours edge, as well as an array of independent shops and cafés lining the cobbles. Staithes is a fascinating village with a lot of history, so take time to explore the free museum as well as the art gallery. The Staithes art group was a colony of artists who gathered here in the 19th century, living among the fisherfolk and even today this village continues to inspire many artists with its beautiful scenery. The area offers walking trails including the Cleveland Way leading across the cliff tops which links other pretty coastal villages such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay as well as Skinningrove. You also have the nearby historical seafaring town of Whitby which delights guests with its cobbled old town, boat trips and the iconic abbey ruins.
For a day out you can take a trip on the steam train across the North Yorks Moors Railway, soaking up the views or there is Saltburn, which is a surfer’s paradise, and has a beautiful Victorian pier. This is a great choice for guests looking to explore the break taking scenery of the Yorkshire Coast as well as the North York Moors National Park. Your well beloved dog is also sure to enjoy a holiday here as most beaches are dog friendly including Staithes.
