It’s a leisurely five-minute level walk into the heart of the town, with the benefit of your own private parking space for up to two cars. Throughout the summer the steam locomotives pass by as they chug their way from the surrounding National Park into Whitby, billowing clouds of steam. They are a sight to behold and here you have front row seats! There is an enclosed patio facing the train tracks, where you can soak up the sun. Stepping inside you have the open plan living space with the living room as well as the dining area, with two leather sofas around the TV. The adjoining kitchen is well-equipped and ideal for creating all of your family’s favourite meals. You have the added convenience of a ground floor toilet. Up on the first floor, there is a single as well as a twin bedroom, both with views over the train tracks with the harbour beyond, here you can watch boats as they return from the sea. There is also a double bedroom as well as a family bathroom. Up on the top floor, you have the master kingsize bedroom with elevated views across the upper harbour as well as an en-suite shower. This is a great size for families as well as friends.
Explore your local surroundings, where you will find the popular chip shop and a convenience store all within a three minute walk. Continue into the heart of the town where you will find the attractions of the Gothic Whitby Abbey, Whitby Museum, the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, and panoramic views atop the 199 steps. There is something for everyone in Whitby, with excellent fishing opportunities available along the West Pier and aboard one of the many boat trips which leave the harbour, picturesque picnic spots within Pannett Park, or fun-filled live performances at the Whitby Pavilion. Don’t forget to spend the day on the glorious sands of Whitby Beach, where you can bathe, build sandcastles with the little ones, or wander up to the historic Whitby Harbour West Lighthouse. For adventurous guests, there is a local surf school, where you can also hire paddleboards and sea kayaks. There are boat trips from the harbour where you can look out for coastal wildlife, including seals and porpoises if you are lucky.
Venture into the North York Moors National Park, where you will discover charming villages, vast moorland as well as ancient forests all laced with walking trails. For some of the best scenery, you can take a day trip from Whitby on the steam train. If you love the great outdoors you can follow the Cinder Track on foot or by bike down to Scarborough via Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar or take in the incredible views along the Cleveland Way trail along the cliff tops. For families, you can explore the attractions of the Sea Life Centre, Alpamare water park, Go Ape tree top zip lining, and Flamingo Land Theme Park all within an hour’s drive away, perfect for a day out to remember.
