Region: Equally as charming as East Yorkshire, West Yorkshire benefits from its close proximity to the surrounding regions of the Peak District to the south and the Yorkshire Dales to the north. From stately homes, to historic museums, West Yorkshire provides a wealth of culture, including the family home of the famous Brontë sisters, Parsonage Museum. Surrounded by open moorlands, cobbled streets and acres worth of countryside, West Yorkshire is an exceptional base for that rural break.

Town: Wharfedale is the most visited of the Yorkshire Dales, and the historic spa town of Ilkley serves as its hub. Beautiful, natural landscapes can be seen in this region. It's a walker's dream, with miles and miles of pristine terrain. A carefully landscaped Victorian scene, complete with two semi-artificial lakes and the river Wharfe winding through the centre of town, can be found high up on the moors next to the white-walled cottage of White Wells (where once donkeys carried gout-ridden gentlemen to be doused in the icy-cold moorland spring). The architecture and atmosphere in Ilkley are very Victorian and Edwardian. The streets are bordered with trees and are lined with businesses, taverns, restaurants, and cafés. On The Grove, you'll find Bettys, widely regarded as the best tea shop in Yorkshire. The park is beautiful, and there are both outdoor and indoor swimming pools, as well as a picnic space for families to enjoy. The breath-takingly gorgeous 84-mile long "Dales Way" hike begins here. The area around Bolton Abbey, especially the stretch of river leading to the 'Strid,' is one of the most beautiful in the region. The song "On Ilkla Moor Baht at" is often considered to be the unofficial state song of Yorkshire because of its focus on Ilkley Moor.

Located in Ilkley, this cottage is on a river. Manor House Museum and Ilkley Playhouse are cultural highlights, and some of the area's landmarks include Bolton Priory and Shipley Glen Tramway. Hesketh Farm Park and Parcevall Hall Gardens are also worth visiting. Practice your golf swing on a nearby course, or enjoy other activities in the great outdoors, such as cycling, hiking/biking trails, and rock climbing in the area.
