16th Century Scottish Castle in Trossachs National Park near Loch Lomond, Stirling

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Sleeps up to 8

2.5 miles from Aberfoyle, nestled in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Forest this 500 year old tower house with connections to Rob Roy has been fully renovated. It now offers comfortable accommodation with en suite bathrooms to each bedroom. With renewable biomass heating system Duchray Castle is the perfect cosy get away! Guests can enjoy the beautiful estate, sit with a good book by the fire or alternatively explore all there is to offer in the local area of Loch Lomond and Stirlingshire.
Duchray Castle has 4 spacious bedrooms.
Bedroom 1 - King size 4 poster bed - this room has views over the Estate and beyond to the lake on one side and down the valley on the other along the river Duchray Water. The room is reached up the original stone spiral staircase and with its full bathroom takes the entire space of one side of the Castle. The bathroom has a huge shower as well as a large bath and double sinks.
Bedroom 2 - with very comfortable zip lock bed this room can be a super king or twin. The views are both down the valley and to the Lake. The ensuite bathroom has a large bath with shower above it.
Bedroom 3 - this is a twin room with views down to the river also an en suite bathroom with bath and over bath shower
Bedroom 4 - This tower bedroom is on up the second spiral staircase to the top! Another double bedroom with en suite shower. This room also has wonderful views to the valley below and the river. It does have slanted attic ceilings so is not for the tallest guests.
Kitchen - There is a large family kitchen which is well equipped and has a table for informal dining for 6 comfortably or 8 at a squash. Off the kitchen there is an additional summer room with wonderful views but this really is a summer space as it has too much glass to be heated practically during the winter.
Dining room - original vaulted dining room. This wonderful room has seen many happy parties, with its large fire and lots of candles it is a great space where meals turn into debates, turn into memory making nights of discussion by the fire!
Great Hall - Another big space with its fire and views, to play games and chat.
Welcome Hall - right in the centre of the castle this cosy room, with its fire, is well stocked with books, games and DVDs for splinter groups who would like to chill on the sofa.
Gardens and Estate. Duchray sits in 80 acres of its own Estate surrounded by woodland and quiet. There are walks along the river and through the woods up the small stream as well as the hedge garden which is like an outdoor room of its own. The flowering season goes through thousands of daffodils from March through carpets of bluebells then the spectacular Rhododendrons and Azaleas. The woods are full of blueberries and mushrooms for those who like to forage and for anyone who enjoys a bit of star gazing we have no light pollution!
We have a 5 night minimum stay policy and our most common comment is that people wish they were staying longer!
Beyond the Castle the area has much to give with walking, cycling, golf, whisky distilleries etc within easy reach.
For larger groups we also have The West Wing at Duchray Castle and The Lodge at Duchray Castle. The West Wing sleeps up to 4 guests in a double and twin with a shared bathroom and The Lodge sleeps up to 5 in a double and family room for 3 also with a shared bathroom. With all 3 properties we have the capacity to host 17, can re arrange our vaulted dining room to seat the entire group and there is plenty of space for everyone to entertain together in the Great Hall. All the properties have equipped kitchens and dining areas giving the additional advantage that if family or mass fun all feels too much it is very easy to disappear back into a smaller space for a while!!
We hope our guests will enjoy staying at Duchray where they can be King of their own Castle for a few days, unwind from the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives, breath the fresh air, and listen to the quiet. They can return home with a new wealth of memories made and shared.

Located in Stirling, this castle is in a rural area and on a river. Rob Roy's Grave and Maid of the Loch are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Aberfoyle Golf Club and Rob Roy Way - South. Traveling with kids? Consider Go Country, Forest Hills Water Sport Centre and Scottish Real Ale Shop. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
