Secluded Cottage In Highland Perthshire Designed Exclusively For Couples, Fortingall

Perthshire. Sleeps up to 2

With a secluded location in Highland Perthshire, near the entrance to Glen Lyon, one of Scotland’s most magical glens, Burn Cottage is the perfect destination to relax and unwind. Designed exclusively for couples, from the outside it is the quintessential stone built cottage while internally it has a bright, airy and contemporary feel where the accent is on luxury with high quality fixtures and fittings throughout. In the summer you can throw open the French doors and let the outside world in, while in the winter you can “snuggle up” beside the wood burning stove.

The design brief was to create something unique, flooded with natural light that brought the traditional stone built cottage bang up to date. With velux windows in every room and raised ceilings the cottage has a bright and airy feel. The open plan sitting room /dining room /kitchen provides a spacious and flexible living space.

The kitchen is fully equipped with Bosch and AEG appliances and has everything you would need to prepare a quick snack or a romantic meal for two.

The cottage is detached and has a secluded and private setting with a well maintained garden to the front and rear. It is located a few hundred meters off a quiet B road near to the mouth of Glen Lyon. Please click to see its location on a map.

To take full advantage of its setting there are two separate seating areas one to the front of the cottage and one to the rear. These can be accessed by three sets of french doors. A large set to the front from the living area and two smaller sets to the rear from the kitchen area and bedroom.

In the evening when the sun goes down you can sit outside, listen to the owls and marvel at the stars.

Touring

Glorious scenery is available in every direction. Glen Lyon, one of Scotland’s natural treasures, is right on your doorstep. Take a scenic drive into the glen and you will not be disappointed. Be sure to stop for a light lunch at the Post Office and tearoom at the Bridge Of Balgie.

Walking

Highland Perthshire’s 2 highest Munroe, Schiehallion and Ben Lawers, are just a short drive away. If this is a bit too strenuous for you then a myriad of less adventurous walks are available locally, with the Birks at Aberfeldy being a particular favourite.

Cycling

This is a fantastic area for cycling. The Caledonian Etapes, the UKs only closed road mass participation cycling event passes within a few hundred yards of the cottages. What better way to take in the scenery than to cycle through it?

Water Sports

White water rafting is available locally on the River Tay and sailing is available on Loch Tay. Fishing on the River Lyon can easily be arranged.

Golf

Golf is available locally at Kenmore, Aberfeldy, Killin and Strathtay.

Distilleries

It would be a shame to visit this area and not sample some of the local produce. So why not visit Dewars World of Whisky in Aberfeldy or the Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry.

Eating and Drinking

Over the last few years the Fortingall hotel has been building an award winning reputation for its dining and hospitality. At Kenmore, the Courtyard and the Kenmore Hotel are well worth a visit. If you are just looking for a lunch or a quiet coffee then House of Menzies on the road to Weem or the Watermill in Aberfeldy will not disappoint.

Castles

There are a number of castles locally which are open to visitors. The spectacular Blair Castle at Blair Athol is home to the Duke of Athol who is the only person in the UK allowed to have his own private army!! Castle Menzies near Weem is a more humble affair but is still well worth a visit. Near Kenmore, the Crannog, while certainly not a castle provides an insight into how iron age inhabitants of the local area lived.

Located in Aberfeldy, this cottage is in a rural area and in the mountains. Castle Menzies and Wade's Bridge are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Mains of Taymouth Golf Course and Aberfeldy Golf Course. Canyoning Scotland and Bolfracks Garden are also worth visiting. Rafting and fishing offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with mountain climbing and cycling nearby.
