Characterful, cosy cottage with far reaching views along the Slad Valley, Slad

Gloucestershire. Sleeps up to 8

The cottage is about 200 - 300 years old. Originally two cottages, joined together by the previous owners. The older half, the southern end with a stable door has been a blacksmiths forge and a bakery in its history. Recently, the cottage has been renovated retaining a lot of charm, inglenook fireplace with a wood burner, exposed beams, wooden floors, window seats and an Everhot range cooker.

The cottage is situated in the middle of the village of Slad with far reaching views across the Slad valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty immortalised in Laurie Lee’s book Cider with Rosie.

There are a huge selection of walks available from the house and one of the best pubs in the cotswolds just a short walk down the road - The Woolpack, just 300 metres from the cottage.

The comfortable lounge has 2 large sofas and an armchair, focusing on the original inglenook fireplace that houses a cast iron wood burning stove and the original bread oven.

The fully equipped modern kitchen has a dining table that will comfortably sit 8 people and an Everhot stove that will always maintain a cosy atmosphere and ready to cook anytime of the day.

Upstairs are 3 king size bedrooms, perfect for couples plus a galleried loft bedroom offering 2 single beds. Please note the loft room has a very steep narrow ‘hit and miss’ staircase (without a handrail), therefore not suitable for very young children or others that may have mobility problems. The master bedroom has an en-suite whilst the other rooms share the family bathroom with a shower over the bath. Please be aware that the property hosts steps inside and out of the property, which guests with restricted mobility may find tricky.

Outside, the cottage has a contained patio with a dry stone wall at one end and at the other (via steps or through the house) is a garden with a decked patio boasting wonderful views across the valley, perfect for early morning or evening drinks. If you’d like to bring your bikes, there a lockable bike and a wood store at the rear.

Slad is only a few minutes from Stroud by car, trains from Paddington are direct and take around an hour and forty minutes. Parking is on the road side, immediately along from the cottage with 2 available spaces.

Stroud has an award winning Farmers’ market held on every Saturday mornings - excellent for local produce and delicious things for lunch. Not to be missed!

If you’re unable to make the market on Saturday then visit the New Valleys Market which is open daily (Mon - Saturday). This new exciting venture houses 20 indoor market stalls with a great lineup of local artisans and food and drink producers.
