The Galloway Forest Park is a Dark Sky Park with over 300² miles of wild beauty, including tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs, ancient woodland and a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey.

With world class mountain biking close by at Glentrool and Kirroughtree, the area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts. The location is perfect for walkers, golfers and cyclists, with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7 Stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses. There is an abundance of fishing, birdwatching, beautiful and exotic gardens, many rocky coves, sandy beaches and quaint villages to explore along the Machars Peninsula. The food town of Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet with its visitor centre, and the artists town of Kircudbright are close by and are popular with visitors. Beach 5 miles.
