Cottage in County Durham, Frosterley

County Durham. Sleeps up to 4

Resting in the village of Frosterley in the Durham Dales is this charming cottage surrounded by beautiful rugged countryside. Frosterley is a small village lying on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beaty (AONB) with exhilarating landscapes to discover. Wander down to the village and find a pub, supermarket and fish and chip bar, whilst 3 miles on either side of Frosterley you will find cafes, an Italian restaurant, gift shops, an art gallery and a range of takeaways and pub. Jump onboard the Weardale railway heritage line, a seasonal 18 mile journey that stops at the nearby villages of Stanhope and Wolsingham. Take a scenic drive over the North Pennines to Barnard Castle (22 miles), rich in history with the ruins of its medieval castle overlooking the river. Nearby you will find the scenic hiking trails of the Weardale Way, Harehope Quarry Project, Pine Woods, and Warren s Peak for those who cannot get enough of the scenery. Step inside this lovely cottage, built in the 1800s and retaining much of its original character, guests will find stone floors, beamed ceilings and fireplaces. Make your way into the cosy lounge with a wood burning stove at its heart. Relax back on the sofa, warmed by the heat of the flames, and watch a programme on the TV or listen to some music. When it's time to eat, venture into the kitchen and rustle up a hearty meal; the kitchen is well equipped to make your stay extremely comfortable and dine around the country style table planning your next day out. At the end of the day, make your way up the stairs to discover two lovely bedrooms, a king size with views to the front and a twin room with Feather and Black beds at the back offering views over the garden. In the morning, kick start your day with a shower or a long soak in the bath before embarking on your next adventure. From the kitchen, step outside to the well kept garden, take your morning coffee and listen to the local birdsong. Being in a dark sky location, this is the perfect place to watch the stars at night. Dine around the table during the summer months with your group in this peaceful setting.
