Venture to the bustling market town of Castlebar, offering excellent retail therapy for those shopaholics, plus a wide selection of pubs, restaurants and other amenities, such as the 18-hole Castlebar Golf Club and the Royal Theatre, where live shows can be enjoyed. To the north of Castlebar lies the striking 13th century Ballintubber Abbey, an important sacred Irish historical site, or head to the imposing ruins of Burriscarra Abbey, both providing a fascinating insight into the region’s history. Take some time to discover Newport, Westport, Croagh Patrick Mountain and Achill Island, which are all well worth visiting.
