The Generals Quarters, Shrewsbury

Shropshire. Sleeps up to 14

Shrewsbury 7 miles. The magnificent west wing of the historic, Grade I listed Pitchford Hall has been carefully restored and transformed into a grand seven-bedroom holiday let, named The General’s Quarters after a previous owner, perfect for your next group escape to Shropshire. With the owner’s holding residence on the other side of this huge property, The General’s Quarters forms the oldest part of the hall, constructed in 1549 and still home to original fireplaces, oak panelled walls and with the estate boasting what is thought to be the oldest treehouse in the world! Inside this impressive and maze-like property, discover the huge kitchen and make use of the range cooker and excellent appliances here, with pretty blue cupboards and a long breakfast table in the centre, it’s a charming spot to gather in the morning before you embark on your adventures. For formal dining occasions or a special celebration, find the stunning dining room where oak panelled walls surround you and a fire blazes in the fireplace, with an antique, ornate dining table and chairs to seat everyone, you can devour a feast before retiring to the armchairs before the fire. Relax within the sitting room and make use of the TV with Freeview and a DVD player to pop a film on for little ones, letting them settle on the large sofas, before heading into the snug room to continue the conversation. A twin bedroom offers a lovely sleeping spot with a shower room situated nearby.. Head up to the first floor to send yourself off to sleep in a bedroom where royalty may have slept, with records showing that a thirteen-year-old Queen Victoria visited Pitchford Hall back when she was still a princess and, during her stay, she watched the estate hunt from the treehouse. Guests can try to guess from which two periods each bedroom has been modelled on, with some displaying a Georgian style and the others featuring a Tudor elegance. These superb bedrooms consist of a king-size with Jack-and-Jill access to one of the two first-floor shower rooms, a further king-size, and two twin bedrooms with an interconnecting door between them, great for little ones. Completing the layout is the wonderful master bedroom, featuring an impressive four-poster super-king-size bed, showcasing the grandeur of this exquisite dwelling, whilst a huge twin bedroom holds a striking fireplace in the centre, splitting the room in half, with a seating area behind it and a beautiful en-suite bathroom to the side with a roll top bath in the centre, perfect for a relaxing soak in peace. Delight in having your own private garden to enjoy, enclosed by dramatic high walls, the lawn space is perfect for some family games in the sun, whilst the sheltered areas with seating are great for getting some fresh air whatever the weather. Roam the incredible Pitchford Hall Estate and go in search of the Tree House at Pitchford, arguably the oldest treehouse in the world, first mentioned in 1692, before continuing around the beautiful grounds. If you can tear yourself away from this truly unique property, then head to the bustling, historic town of Shrewsbury with its 600 listed buildings, castle, museums, traditional inns and fine shops and restaurants, presenting a wealth of choice for all tastes. Within easy reach is Church Stretton as well as Shropshire's finest town of Ludlow surrounded by the beautiful Clee Hills, excellent for walkers, and home to its amazing castle along with a wealth of half-timbered buildings and red-brick houses. Visit the steepest railway in Britain at Bridgnorth to head up the cliff-side and delight in scenic cliff-top walks with views overlooking the River Severn, with the Severn Valley Railway steam train taking you along a gorgeous 16-mile route to Kidderminster, providing a leisurely way to enjoy the countryside. Don't miss a day out at one of the National Trust properties of Attingham Park and Benthall Hall, whilst the Ironbridge Gorge and the medieval market town of Much Wenlock are worth visiting too. Experience a holiday like no other at this incredible property, making memories to last a lifetime at The General's Quarters in Shropshire.
