County Durham. Sleeps up to 4

Overlooking the pretty River Wear is this charming, semi-detached cottage, 2 Holme Pool, situated just a mile away from the village of St John's Chapel. This rural retreat lies at the heart of the North Pennines AONB and offers superb opportunities for walking, cycling, birdwatching and spending quality time with your loved ones. After soaking up the countryside setting, be welcomed into the sitting room, where you can snuggle up in front of the woodburning stove and tune in the TV during a chilly winter’s evening. Beyond here is the well-equipped kitchen, where the designated chef of the group will find all the essentials to whip up home-cooked meals before settling down around the dining table to plan the days ahead, with the added charm of the additional woodburning stove. As the evening draws to a close, venture up the staircase to retire to one of the well-presented bedrooms, comprising a double and a twin, each boasting ample storage for a week-long break and delightful views of the surrounding countryside. If you don’t feel like cooking one evening, venture to the quaint village of St John's Chapel where you will find two welcoming pubs, each serving delicious evening meals. Here, you will also find a village shop and a Post Office for picking up any holiday essentials. Venture a little further to the market town of Stanhope where you will find a larger selection of amenities, whilst the city of Durham houses an imposing cathedral, a castle and a choice of shops to explore one afternoon. Alternatively, the North Pennines AONB offers miles of walking and cycling routes amid breath-taking scenery and an abundance of wildlife to admire. 2 Holme Pool is a wonderful base for exploring this part of County Durham.
