Nokka's historical significance is notable; it was originally a yeoman’s house and later transformed into an inn. The cottage was mentioned in the journal of poet Thomas Gray during his tour of the lakes in 1769, showcasing its longstanding connection to the region's literary heritage. Additionally, renowned fell-walker A. Wainwright featured Nokka in his book 'The Coast to Coast Walk.'
