Principal Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage

Strathy Point, Near Thurso, Highland

5

Strathy Point, located near Thurso in the Highland region of Scotland, offers a unique accommodation experience in an old lighthouse that boasts breathtaking views of the North Atlantic Ocean. This charming retreat can comfortably sleep up to five guests and features essential amenities, including a nearby pub and proximity to the coast. The property is accessible via a ground floor entrance that requires climbing 40 steps, leading into a well-appointed living space that includes a bright living room equipped with a 42" TV for DVD use, a kitchen/dining room with modern appliances, and a cozy study area.

The sleeping arrangements consist of two double bedrooms and one single bedroom, all tastefully decorated to ensure comfort. A contemporary bathroom with a bath and shower attachment is complemented by a separate toilet. The cottage is heated by oil central heating, and guests will find bed linen, towels, and limited Wi-Fi included in their stay. A welcome pack is provided, and the property features natural grounds with grassy slopes and cliffs, along with private parking for two cars. However, due to the presence of unfenced cliffs and the nearby sea, this location is not suitable for children under eight years old.

Strathy Point Lighthouse is set against a stunning backdrop of rugged cliffs and wild landscapes, now serving as a tranquil getaway rather than a functioning lighthouse. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts interested in walking, sea-fishing, and wildlife watching. Visitors can expect to encounter a variety of marine life, including dolphins, whales, and seals, as well as a diverse array of seabirds and rare wildflowers. The nearby colony of puffins at Melvich adds to the area's appeal for nature lovers.

The village of Strathy, just two miles away, offers a pub, café, and a beautiful sandy beach, while the adjacent village of Melvich provides additional amenities, including a shop and small restaurant. The renowned North Coast 500 route, famous for its breathtaking scenery, runs nearby, allowing guests to explore some of the most picturesque landscapes in the UK. The vibrant town of Thurso, located a mere 20-minute drive away, features a variety of shops, pubs, and restaurants, along with historical sites, castles, and opportunities for numerous outdoor activities such as kayaking, horse riding, sailing, and fishing, with free sea fishing directly off the rocks below the lighthouse.
