‘The Upper Arches’ is a luxurious self-catering holiday accommodation located in Chulmleigh, Devon, nestled in the picturesque Taw Valley amidst the rolling hills of central Devon. This former barn, believed to have been constructed around the same time as the main house, Nethercott, dates back to the 1862 Portsmouth Estate built by the Earl of Portsmouth. The conversion of ‘The Upper Arches’ began in 2010, culminating in its completion in mid-2012. The design and construction, overseen by a local architect and builder, utilized local materials such as stone, oak, and slate, preserving the building's traditional character while enhancing it with modern touches.
The interior of ‘The Upper Arches’ features an open-plan, upside-down layout that maximizes space and comfort, accommodating up to 10 guests with three bedrooms equipped with king or super-king beds, and the option for additional beds for children. Each room is furnished with luxury deep pile carpets, solid oak furniture, and modern amenities, including 22” HDTVs and hairdryers. The property also boasts a spacious kitchen and dining area, complete with high-end appliances and a large dining table capable of seating up to 18 guests, making it ideal for family gatherings or group retreats.
Guests can enjoy a range of amenities designed for relaxation and recreation, including a comprehensive gym area with commercial-grade equipment and a shared garden space featuring a large BBQ.
