Located in rural West Sussex, Down View Cottage offers all guests a great welcome. It lies on the edge of the delightful village of West Marden, nestled in the South Downs, and enjoys a truly peaceful location. There are panoramic views of the rolling downland, yet all the attractions of Chichester and Portsmouth are close by. Set over two floors, the property can accommodate up to four guests and has been tastefully furnished. Outside is a charming walled patio area overlooking the pony paddock and the South Downs.
There is a huge network of footpaths and bridleways running from the property, and the area abounds in wildlife. You will more than likely see deer, foxes, badgers, red kite and buzzards all from the garden, and the village peacocks often drop in too. The village pub serves a range of beers and excellent food and is only a short walk away. A small shop and tea room, a village pub, playground/tennis court and church can be found in Compton, less than a mile up the road.
This splendid property is roughly 8 miles north west of the historic city of Chichester, with its beautiful cathedral and festival theatre, and 12 miles north east of the ferry port of Portsmouth. Be sure not to miss a visit to Goodwood, famous for is motorsport event and racing meetings, as well as its golf course. Fontwell Races are also within easy driving distance, and scenic boat tours can be enjoyed around Chichester harbour. Other places of interest include the picturesque sailing town of Bosham, Midhurst, Portsmouth with its waterside dining, shipyard museums, historic ships, Spinnaker Tower and designer shopping. Hayling Island and West Wittering, with its beautiful sand dunes, are within 20 minutes’ drive and there are many homes and gardens to discover including Arundel Castle, West Dean Gardens and the National Trust’s Uppark House and Petworth House. Fishbourne Roman Palace and the Novium Museum in Chichester have excavations and Roman artefacts. The South Downs is also the setting for the Weald and Dowland Living Museum. Beach 12½ miles. Shop 1 mile and pub serving food 100 yards.
