What was once a dormant calf byre of one of Hampshire’s most beautiful, privately owned historic houses, Houghton Lodge, is now a bespoke collection of six individually designed boutique en-suite bedrooms called The Apple Rooms, named after apple trees growing in the walled garden orchard. The rooms face west across a grassy meadow, away from the main house and river.
The Apple Rooms provide the perfect base for exploring the many Test Valley attractions and restaurants. They are ideal for romantic getaways, countryside and rural retreats, weekends away visiting friends, fishing or attending a function close by.
Mahogany and oak Georgian furniture has been carefully selected to style the rooms; most pieces are over 300 years old. Where antique furniture has been difficult to source, new pieces have been bought to complement the minimal yet stylish design.
The result is a blissfully serene and idyllic escape in Hampshire. All guests can enjoy complimentary entry to the gardens during their stay (during the opening hours 1st April – 30th September) to discover the features of the walled garden, peony walk, long border, topiary peacock garden and the luscious lawns which roll down to the River Test. Guests will also receive a discount for the on-site tearoom, Honesty at Houghton Lodge. During the winter months the garden and tearoom are closed (1st October-31st March) to allow some much needed garden development.
