Oozing charm and character, these beautiful semi-detached barn conversions (refs W32401 and W32402) have been professionally designed to a high standard, offering modern comforts whilst retaining an authentic feel. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s working farm, who are on hand to offer advice on the local area, the cottages are in an excellent central location on the Tipperary/Offaly border, almost equidistant from the picturesque town of Birr, 7½ miles, and one of the oldest towns in Ireland, Roscrea, 6 miles. Outside there is a large covered barbecue and seating area, ideal for al fresco dining, or for a cosy night in by the wood burner, evening meals can be ordered from the main house (by prior arrangement) via a connecting phone. A few minutes’ away is the village of Kinnitty, at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, where there are hiking trails for all ages to get off the beaten track and enjoy the spectacular views of the Midlands from an elevated position. Heaving with history, nearby Birr is one of Ireland’s premier heritage towns with its handsome ensemble of Georgian architecture and tree-lined avenues. Visit Birr Castle with its stunning formal gardens and interactive Science Centre, enjoy a show at Birr theatre, a cross country trek at Birr equestrian centre, or take one of the walking trails starting from the town square, such as the Birr Town Trail, a great way to explore the town, or the pretty Riverbank Walk trail. The nearby town of Roscrea boasts many attractions and activities including the 13th century Roscrea Castle, 15th century Franciscan Abbey, the Round Tower, 18-hole golf course and a leisure centre, as well as Ireland’s first gravity-fed mountain bike park catering for all abilities. Close to the cottages is Leap Castle, reputedly Ireland’s most haunted castle and well worth a visit! Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.
