Ravenstone Country Manor is a beautiful old Victorian manor set in lovely private grounds on the outskirts of the quaint village of Melmerby. Built in 1852 and formerly the rectory attached to the village church at the end of the impressive driveway, it is situated in the picturesque Eden Valley on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Only 10 miles from the M6 motorway and 15 minutes from the historic town of Penrith, it is a perfect base for exploring the Northern Lakes and is less than an hour from Scotland, the Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian’s Wall and the Lake District town of Keswick. Ullswater Lake is a short drive away and the area has an abundance of lovely walks with Melmerby Fell close by.

Ravenstone Manor is a perfect country retreat for family get-togethers, small weddings, corporate events and celebrations, or even a friends’ pamper weekend. Set in a quirky ruin in the spa garden, the large hot tub with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, underwater mood lighting and power jets provide a stimulating massage. Or treat yourself to some luxury pampering in the Divine Intervention Spa, complete with aromatherapy sauna, massage, beauty and alternative therapy suite. Bookings for treatments can be facilitated by the owners.

This splendid Victorian Manor has been lovingly restored with spectacular attention to detail. The owner’s eye for eclectic and contemporary interior design is evident the moment you step inside, yet it retains characterful original features. The four-storey manor provides the very latest in modern technology with excellent Wi-Fi, huge Smart TVs and contemporary bathing in slipper baths in the large en-suite bedrooms. The luxury experience continues taking you to a whole new level featuring power showers and the two unique Penthouse suites on the second floor. Formerly the servant’s quarters and accessed via a curved staircase, this gives guests an impossible choice to claim their favourite room! Be quick and you might bag the four poster master bed!

Between the two Penthouse suites sits the main studio, reminiscent of a New York style loft that has multi uses as a cinema room, yoga and therapy studio, seminar space or quiet counselling area. The main reception room with its opulent furnishings opens up to the orangery with magnificent views of the Pennine hills. Dine like a king or queen in the stunning dining room by choosing to engage one of the private chefs to provide your breakfast or evening meal if you want to dispense with cooking yourself. Step back in time and the Victorian kitchen, complete with servant’s bells and old butcher’s block, transports you back to an authentic ‘Downton Abbey’ experience.

Melmerby is a lovely, peaceful place with a village green, award winning bakery and bistro, also selling upmarket giftware and clothing. The village tea room and shop also has traditional antiques and further along the road sits a unique bric-a-brac emporium where you can find inexpensive and individual gifts and memorabilia. The local pub has a good menu and there is a super village hall for wedding receptions and parties.
Unusually, Ravenstone Manor has its own llamas and other animals ranging from mini Shetland ponies to domesticated Bengal Tiger cats. The owners also run a popula llama trekking business and you can even book to have your very own llamas to accompany you on short walks around the village. Birds of prey experiences and interactive animal experiences can also be booked in advance by appointment.

The A686 was chosen by the AA magazine as one of the ‘Ten Great Drives’. From Melmerby the road climbs the Hartside Pass from where you will get magnificent views to Scotland. There is so much to do and see from your peaceful haven at Ravenstone Manor, however you may prefer just to relax and enjoy your surroundings in this beautiful Victorian manor. Ravenstone Manor can also be booked with Coachman’s Cottage (UKC3877) to accommodate up to 15 guests.
