Private parking for 1 car. No smoking. . This handmade Mongolian yurt can be found on the site of eco-friendly Upper Hurst Farm, in the heart of the Peak District National Park. There is also a fabulous, cosy barn conversion, Gaias Lodge (UK4047) on-site which can also be booked. The private and secluded setting offers spectacular, far reaching views, and with exclusive use of a wood fired tub, this really does make for a wonderfully unique glamping break.
Just 1 mile from the traffic free Manifold Way, a favourite for walkers, cyclists and horse riders alike, Gaia’s Hideaway is wonderfully set up with handmade furnishings and a large circular bed with sumptuous feather pillows, a softly draped canopy and Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels. The owner also provides fluffy dressing gowns and a breakfast hamper of ingredients for an excellent full English, so you can get cosy and tuck in. There is a sociable, south-facing decked area outside, with the adjacent footpath leading to a red cedar wood fired tub exclusively for yurt guests. The yurt has a self-contained mini-kitchen area with cooking and washing up facilities, and the dining and living areas are arranged around a large Persian rug and central wood burner. Finally there is a compost toilet outside the yurt, and toilet and shower facilities are just 165 yards away on the adjacent caravan and camping site, where the owners also live.
Upper Hurst Farm has a nature-based ethos, encouraging bio-diversity in fields and hedgerows. In addition, the majority of energy is provided from sustainable sources or solar panels. Resident animals include four characterful and friendly mini Shetland ponies. There are resident little owls as well as other indigenous owls and buzzards, and peregrine falcons are a common sight. Swallows and curlews return here every spring.
Hiking and sightseeing in the Peak District is easy with Beresford Dale and the start of the Manifold Way both within a 1 mile walk, and the famed market towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek are all within 20 minutes drive. You can stroll 2 miles to the local village of Hartington, or amble half a mile across fields to the local village stores and nearest pub, which serves food and is dog friendly. The infamous Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall can be reached in around 30 minutes, as can one of the country’s most popular theme parks, Alton Towers. Shop ¾ mile, pub serving food ½ mile.
