Escape to the delightful rural West Sussex village of Rusper. Here you can stay in a 17th-century authentic Tudor, beamed semi-detached cottage with its own private driveway within the grounds of the owner’s hotel. If the temperature drops outside light the ready laid fire and curl up in front of the magnificent stone inglenook fireplace. The enclosed garden at the back of the property is ideal for al fresco dining should the sun put in a welcome appearance, alternatively you are able to eat in the hotel restaurant (reservations recommended). Treat yourself to the quintessential English delight of afternoon tea overlooking the grounds and lake! Make sure you pack your walking boots as half an hours drive takes you to the Surrey Hills or the South Downs. Within the sleepy village of half-timbered cottages and houses, the village church boasts a tower and from here you can see Blackdown Hill, and Leith Hill in the Surrey and Hampshire Downs. Public tennis courts, a couple of good pubs and a village shop are close by. Visit Nutbourne Vineyard near Pulborough and book a wine tasting tour or discover the beautiful Arundel Castle and gardens, which have been the seat of the Norfolk family for over 850 years. Go fishing or take a boat out on the River Arun. Wakehurst on the High Weald of West Sussex has 500 acres of beautiful gardens, woodlands and a nature reserve plus the Millennium Seedbank. Brighton, Chichester and Goodwood for the horse racing, Festival of Speed and Revival, are also within easy driving distance and Gatwick airport is just 8 miles away. Shop 250 yards, pub 500 yards, restaurant next door.
