Excellent Walks from your doorstepHenfaes Isaf lies just off the Tegid Way - just one of the excellent walks from the cottage. There is a wonderful circular walk - the Wayfarer's Memorial, leading up to Cadair Bronwen - views across the whole of the Berwyn Range - then returning back to the farmhouse via Ty Uchaf, an ancient stone circle. Cynwyd Waterfalls are a short walk away across the fields - care here there are steep drops. Walk along the River Dee from an ancient historic bridge to discover small pebbly beaches - sure to appeal to small children and perhaps older ones too!Maps for these walks can be found in the farmhouse for guests to borrow - mountain bikers can take the circular route from the farmhouse via the Wayfarer's Memorial. Places to EatIn Llandrillo (3 miles) is an excellent small restaurant The Berwyn, homemade food served with a warm welcome (booking advisable, open Thurs-Sun). Also in Llandrillo is Tyddyn LLan, highly acclaimed in all the good food guides and the possessor of a Michelin Star - one of Wales's foremost restaurants, set in this lovely remote location (booking advisable).15-minutes' drive away is Palé Hall hotel, an impressive, recently renovated Victorian manor where you can enjoy cream tea or even a full Afternoon tea for a special treat. The acclaimed Rhug Estate Farm Shop is within 3 miles and sells organic meat and vegetables from the estate. There is also a restaurant serving food until 17:30, but for a quick snack try their bison hamburgers from the takeaway. Llangollen has a lively pub The Corn Mill on the banks of the River Dee with spectacular views of the town and river rushing past. The menu is excellent and the atmosphere is cosy (booking advisable). Bala LakeThis is the largest natural lake in Wales and has an adventure centre here where you can hire canoes and sailing boats, use as a beach for swimming and paddling - ideal for small children.A miniature railway track runs along one side of the lake and there are designated picnic spots all along the shore - follow the path over the wooden foot bridge to a hidden beach and rope swings. Bala Golf ClubVisitors are warmly welcomed to play a round of golf on Bala's 10 hole course, 1000 feet above sea level with fabulous views of the lake below. Day Tickets - Corwen and District Angling ClubQuality Game fishing, world famous for grayling fishing and the largest single game fishery on the Welsh river Dee. LlangollenTake the Llangollen Railway steam train from from nearby Corwen for a scenic ride along the Dee Valley to LlangollenThere is lots to enjoy here from white water rafting for the adventurous to pleasant walks along the canal to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct to admire Telford's magnificent feat of engineering. This 11 mile stretch of canal was awarded World Heritage status in 2009. The famous Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is held here annually in July with world class music and dance. RuthinThis is a historic town with many medieval buildings including Wales's oldest timber framed house as well as the old jail with its grim reminder of past times. Markets are held regularly in the town centre and there is also the Ruthin Craft Centre and an interesting Art Trail.
