Hendy Plas Marian, Bodorgan

Gwynedd. Sleeps up to 8

WalksWalk or cycle down the quiet tree lined lane from the property passing the ancient church Trefdraeth to Malltraeth and follow the well signposted cycle/footpath across the estuary to Newborough Forest Nature Reserve. This forest is a birdwatchers paradise with 'hides' placed in the woods, some by small lakes ideal for quiet observation. Look out for the red squirrels - Anglesey has almost completely eradicated the greys from the island so that the reds now thrive. CyclingHendy, Plas Marian is near Sustrans Cycle Route 8, Lon Las Cycle Route along the Cefni River and close to the Isle of Angelsey Coastal Path. BeachesAberffraw is only a short drive away with its unspoilt sandy beach and estuary and the small medieval church of St Cwyfan perched on a little island the other side of the village, accessible only at low tide. The popular resorts of Rhosneigr and Trearddur Bay are also nearby. Anglesey's gems however are Llanddwyn Island, which is a magical place together with Newborough Beach. The miles of pristine sand from Llanddwyn Island, to the southern tip of Anglesey, forms one of the finest beaches in Britain - dramatic mountain views, clean, clear water, woods and mythology. Llanddwyn Island is a 20 minute walk from the car park and inaccessible at high tide. Enjoy the white washed little church and small lighthouse. RestaurantsThere are many great places to eat nearby. The White Eagle at Rhoscolyn is a must - what could be better on summer weekends than live music and the smell of grilling steaks drifting across the headland! Owned by the same company as The Oystercatcher, this is a modern stylish restaurant set amongst the sand dunes at the entrance of Rhosneigr. Highly recommended is a friendly neighbourhood bistro called Marram Grass (Good Food Guide 2016) at Newborough. Eat in or take away huge portions of delicious freshly cooked fish and chips from The Codmother in Newborough. Customers are prepared travel some distance to enjoy them. For shopping there is a village shop and Post Office 1 mile away, Asda's in Llangefni and Waitrose in Menai Bridge. BeaumarisWithout doubt the loveliest town in North Wales with its romantic castle and set on the lovely Menai Strait, beautiful Georgian and Victorian townhouses along the high street. Stunning views from the Victorian pier across to the Snowdon Range. Full of independent shops that include the Janet Bell Gallery, The Cook Shop and Soul Living. Plas Newydd (NT)Sitting on the edge of Menai Strait, this is a delight for keen gardeners and art lovers will be fascinated by the Rex Whistler murals inside the house.
