The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful counties of Kent and Sussex, including ’1066 country’, and combines the coast and the countryside. The cottage benefits from open-plan accommodation and a sunny lawned garden. Situated within the owners’ grounds and close to the village of Robertsbridge on the River Rother, with its atmospheric pubs and black and white medieval timber framed houses.
Robertsbridge is well known with cricket enthusiast’s as the home to the cricket bat makers Gray-Nicolls, established in 1876, and who still grow their own willow locally for the cricket bats. Visit the factory for an insight into the process of cricket bat making (tours are pre-booked). Take a trip on the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway which chugs through 10½ miles of glorious countryside from Tenterden, ’The Jewel of the Weald’, to Bodiam, with its fairytale moated castle which is well worth visiting. Spend a day at Battle Abbey and the famous battle field, the re-enactment of the battle of Hastings takes place each October. Take a guided tour of the local vineyards including Carr Taylor and Sedlescombe, which produce some award-winning wines. Hire bikes and cycle around Bewl Water or take out a fishing boat for trout and pike fishing (at cost, licence required). The coast at Hastings with its beach launched fishing fleet and iconic net huts is approximately 10 miles away. Good rail links to London from Robertsbridge offer further sightseeing opportunities. Beach 8.5 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
