Lovegrove’s Studio is a single build, detached first floor studio, perfect for couples who are looking to escape to the country. The studio stands beside Lovegrove’s Farmhouse, which is part of Checkendon Equestrian Centre, a British Horse Society Approved Riding School and Livery Yard, set in 70 acres of parkland and woodland in the Oxfordshire Chilterns, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is situated 7 miles west of Henley-on-Thames and 7 miles north of Reading, Berkshire. Whilst staying at the studio, guests can take a relaxing walk through the owners’ surrounding woodland (much of which has now been turned into a woodland garden with camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias, hydrangeas, and wonderful bluebells in late Spring) where you will discover some interesting specimen trees and unusual sculptures. There are also some wonderful walks to be had beyond the owners’ grounds whilst in the area. Whilst on the premises if you are interested in riding lessons, hacking or even horseback archery, then please speak with the centre manager before or during your stay. There is also the use of a tennis court, on the grounds, except on Sunday mornings.
The Blackhorse in Checkendon is an extremely atmospheric pub likened to stepping back in time with its chocolate box exterior and interior from times gone by. It is over 400 years old and has been run by members of the same family for over 100 years and is well worth a visit. Other places of interest nearby include the picturesque town of Henley-on-Thames, known most commonly the world over for its Royal Regatta held in the first week of July, and Reading, one of the country’s most up and coming towns, being the heart of the UK’s Silicon Valley and offering convenient access to London by train or motorway. The town boasts the Oracle and a spectacular shopping centre sited alongside the River Kennet with numerous riverside places to eat. Shop 1½ miles, pub 800 yards and restaurant 2 miles.
