The Shire Shepherds Hut, Waen Near St Asaph

Clwyd. Sleeps up to 2

St Asaph 4 miles. The Shire Hut is a unique, oak-framed shepherd’s hut, situated within an acre of parkland on the owner’s small holding in Waen near St Asaph, Denbighshire. This lovely, air-conditioned hut boasts fantastic views of the North Wales countryside, whilst around four miles from St Asaph and its amenities, recognised as the smallest city in the UK. Enjoying a tranquil setting, the hut is ideal for a couple looking for a romantic break away, for a couple of friends looking to traverse the countryside, or a small family get together. Inside there is a feature Victorian, cast-iron double bed, two rocking chairs in front of a recessed fireplace housing a small woodburning stove, a well-equipped kitchen, and a dining table with folding chairs. There’s also a separate wet room with the extra facilities of grab rails. The outdoor seating area looks out over the countryside towards the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing an excellent place to enjoy a morning coffee, whilst the one-acre paddock backs onto the owner’s duck pond, pygmy goat, and horse paddock. There is an additional paddock at the bottom of the park, should you wish to bring your own horse or pony. There are many walks from the doorstep with riverside trails not far away, where you may see kingfishers, sparrow hawks and buzzards. For your nearest hub of amenities, head into St Asaph, where you’ll find a selection of shops, pubs and eateries to ease your stay. The coast can also be reached by car, stopping off to firstly tour Rhuddlan Castle / Castell Rhuddlan and hike up to Rhaeadr Dyserth Waterfall on route, before reaching Rhyl and its whole host of seaside amusements, including its golden stretch of sand. Travelling south, the bustling city of Chester can also be reached from the hut, where you’ll find a high street of shops, a wide range of independent eateries, and a whole host of characterful buildings, including the Cathedral, Eastgate Clock, and the city walls, all worth visiting whilst in the area. Your next adventure to North Wales starts at The Shire Hut.
