## Neighborhood

Bethnal Green, just to the east of Shoreditch, is a cool, young area with great transport links and plenty to do. New developments are being built, high street shops are arriving, and it’s quickly becoming a go-to restaurant spot due to all the excellent eateries under the railway arches – but it’s still got that authentic East End character that’s becoming harder and harder to find.

For green space Victoria Park is a short walk away, where you can enjoy the pond, do a spot of summer sunbathing, or attend one of the many festivals and events that take place here during the summer and winter. Haggerston Park is also nearby and offers a fabulous green space in the city. London Fields is one of Hackney's most popular parks. It's classified as common land due to its history as a site for grazing animals and moving them to market at Smithfield. The park's large grassy spaces are surrounded by London Plane trees. The park holds a Green Flag award - an award given annually to the best green spaces in the country.

## Transit

Being not far from the hubbub of Shoreditch and the City, Bethnal Green is well-connected to the rest of London via the underground and various buses, and it’s possible to walk to many locations including Shoreditch High Street (10 minutes) and Liverpool Street (20 minutes). Bethnal Green Station is served by the Central line, making travelling to Central and West London fast and easy – Oxford Circus is a 13 minute tube ride, and Notting Hill Gate takes only 21 minutes. Close to Bethnal Green Station is Cambridge Heath Station, which serves the London Overground on the Enfield and Chingford to Liverpool Street Line. It’s one of the best ways to travel further into East London, with Hackney Downs just a 5 minute journey away.

## Notes

This is Nick & Emmas home, we hope you love it as much as we do, see below for some of our favourite spots in the area:

Quarantacinque is our favourite coffee shop in town, we have our coffee there daily. Only a 7 minutes walk from the flat, it's a true independent gem run by Francesco, the nicest barista from Italy. Currently take our only - 45 Roman Road, E2 0HU

Simply Fresh is a small local supermarket with a great selection of quality foods, from Gluten Free to Vegan. The cheese counter is worth a visit! - 201-203 Roman Road, E2 0QY

Herbert & Son is a greengrocer that has been in the area since 1974! Always a family business, it's now run by Marc, a lovely chap with whom we have become good friends. We shop there daily, Marc has the best, freshest stuff - Globe Town, E2 0RR

Some of my favourite spots to eat and drink:

Satan’s Whiskers - 343 Cambridge Heath Road E2 9RA - 12 minutes walk from the flat.

We went there for our first date! This is a great, cosy, vibey cocktail bar where bar people really know what they are doing. It’s off the beaten track, mainly locals go there. Book in advance.

Birstroteque - 23-27 wadeson Street, E2 9DR - 20 mins walk from the flat.

Probably our favourite restaurant in London, they opened in the mid 2000s when East London was about to be ‘hip’ and they have been consistently good ever since. Great food, great service. We tend to go for brunch, their full English is mega and the soft shell crab Benedict is a current favourite.

Royal Oak pub - 72 Columbia Road, E2 7Rg - 20 minutes from the flat.

A hip boozer frequented by locals and the occasional famous face. It’s on Columbia road, so if you go on Sunday you have the famous flower market too

The Lord Tredegar - 50 Lichfield Road, e3 5al - 10 minutes walk from the flat.

A new discovery for us, a cosy local pub which never gets too crowded and serves nice food too

Burberry and Nike Outlet shops - Chatham Place, E9 6LP - 25 minutes walk from the flat

Not many people know about these 2 still, you can find some good bargains. Sometimes all the clothing is still expensive at Burberry but you might get lucky. A good place for scarves and accessories. The Nike one is usually better when it comes to bargains

Located in London, this apartment is in the city center. Oxford Street and Covent Garden Market are worth checking out if shopping is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Hyde Park and Finsbury Park. Looking to enjoy an event or a game? See what's going on at ExCeL Exhibition Centre or O2 Arena.
