Cosy Coastal 2-Bedroom Cottage with Hot Tub & Log Burner, Mersea Island

Essex. Sleeps up to 5

Elmtree Cottage offers unforgettable views of the Blackwater Estuary for you to soak up whilst enjoying a lazy morning in bed. Once you’re up and ready for the day, stomp along the protected and historic beaches on your doorstep, or indulge in some of Mersea Island's world-famous Oysters and seafood. Whatever you choose to do during your stay, Elmtree Cottage is certainly the perfect location to create your own wonderful memories you'll cherish for a lifetime.

The space:

Elmtree Cottage is an old and quirky little home, in fact it is one of the oldest properties on Mersea Island. Expect lots of exposed beams, floorboards and low level ceilings in places. The property is perfect for those that value character and charm over homogenous and clinical.
Within the triple aspect main bedroom, sitting up in your king size bed, you can enjoy multiple views across the estuary watching a wide variety of boats swaying at their moorings.
From the living/dining room, you can sit at the table and also enjoy views across the estuary, whilst spotting the local wildlife leap in and out of your private garden.
Nonetheless, despite the character and charm, we endeavour to sympathetically blend in the requirements of modern living. Firstly, you can expect fibre optic WiFi throughout the property, with download speeds of up to 150mbps. Secondly, you are welcome to enter your login details into the various streaming services on the HD television to avoid missing your favourite programs. Finally, please be assured the property has full heating and lighting provision, with hot and cold running water!
Guest access
Elmtree Cottage will be your exclusive and private little home by the sea for the duration of your stay.
You have your own parking space. No shared access points. No shared rooms. No shared garden. 100% yours to enjoy.
Other things to note
Mersea Island *can* briefly get cut off from the mainland at high tide, but it is rarely for longer than 2 hours.

Before you arrive, it is always worth checking the time of the high tide; Search ‘Tide Times’ on the Internet, select your website of choice (e.g. BBC Weather) and enter ‘West Mersea’ as your location.

If the height of the high tide is LESS than 5m, the sea is unlikely to flood the road and you don’t need to adjust your plans. However, if the height of the high tide is MORE than 5m, it is best not to arrive within an hour before, or an hour after high tide.

I strongly discourage any driver attempting to drive across a flooded road, not least due to risk of a road incident, but because salt water and cars do not mix well!

Worst case, if your travels don’t go to plan and you face a long delay getting on to the island, the Peldon Rose Pub is a minute away, serving very good food and refreshments whilst you wait to see when the queue of cars begin to move - then you know the tide has dropped sufficiently :-D

Located in Colchester, this vacation home is on the waterfront. Gosfield Lake Golf Club and Five Lakes Golf Club are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those looking for area attractions can visit Colchester Natural History Museum and Xtreme Gaming. Colchester Zoo and Tenpin Bowling Colchester are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
