Park Cottage, Bonsall

Peak District. Sleeps up to 6

Nestled in the small village of Bonsall, on the edges of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, is this superb award-winning recently renovated, semi-detached stone cottage, Park Cottage. Benefitting from fabulous countryside views, character features and easy access to the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House, Park Cottage is a fantastic dwelling for a family of six or group of friends with their canine companions to explore the wonders of the Peak District. Be welcomed into the spacious sitting room, where you can look forward to cosying up on the sofa in front of your favourite TV show courtesy of the TV with Freeview and DVD player as well as an Xbox for keeping the children entertained, as the woodburning stove crackles nearby. Rustle up culinary delights in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, with five-ring rangemaster, microwave and dishwasher, as well as a handy washing machine housed in the utility cupboard, so there is no need to bring your whole wardrobe away with you! Gather around the dining table for six, as you savour a tasty meal and toast to a wonderful getaway. If the weather is nice why not dine alfresco out on the private patio and fire up the barbecue? Completing the ground-floor is a shower room, where you can enjoy a refreshing rinse after a day of exploring. Climb the stairs to the first-floor, where you will find a bathroom, perfect for indulging in a blissful bubble bath before catching your rest in one of three well-presented bedrooms, two doubles and a twin. Awake from a leisurely slumber and sip a steaming cup of coffee out in the front garden, as you watch the children play nearby in the play area. Take a leisurely wander into Bonsall, where you will find the welcoming Kings Head, a pub serving scrumptious home-cooked meals and local ales, ideal for those fuss-free evenings where you don’t feel like cooking. There are also the delightful Fountains Tearooms and the beautiful Cascades Gardens for a peaceful stroll. Just a short drive away is Matlock, home to the Pic Tor War Memorial with stunning views at its top and the Peak Rail where you can hop aboard a vintage steam train for an exciting ride through the scenic Peak District. Head over to Matlock Bath, where you can catch an alpine-style cable car at The Heights of Abraham, which offers cavern tours and a fossil museum, treat the little ones to an aquarium trip with arcades, delve into history at the Peak District Mining Museum or enjoy a memorable fun-filled family day at Gulliver’s Kingdom. Continue down to Wirksworth where you can treat the family to a film at the quirky independent cinema, learn more about the village at the heritage centre or explore the Puzzle Gardens. Be sure to make time for a trip to Bakewell, home to a historic 13th-century five arched bridge that leads you to the bustling town centre filled with restaurants, tearooms and pubs, as well as dessert shops offering the famous Bakewell Pudding. Don’t forget to stop by the grand stately home of Chatsworth House, where you can tour the magnificent interiors and extensive gardens complete with labyrinth. For a home-away-from-home in the heart of the Peak District, don’t miss out on Park Cottage.
