Boyle is also home to the old Boyle Abbey, a 12th century monastery built by the Cistercian order, as well as King House, which was once the home to the King family who amassed tens of thousands of acres of land. Explore the beauty of the local area by foot, with plenty of scenic spots to enjoy a picnic amidst the company of your loved ones, while a short drive away is the county town of Carrick-on-Shannon, steeped in history with many Irish landmarks including the unusual Costello Chapel, which is believed to be the smallest chapel in Europe. Those seeking activity can go to the Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, where you can experience the zip-lines in the sky, ride segways, take on a woodland safari and much more. Lakeside Cottage is a wonderful retreat to this exciting part of Ireland.
