The nearest village which is home to both shops and pubs is Saxilby, a lovely settlement and home to a train station too. Head into the city of Lincoln to do some sightseeing, making sure to visit Lincoln Cathedral to tour the grounds, roof and tower and soak up the fabulous views, as well as making a stop at Lincoln Castle which hosts events throughout the year and offers free guided tours around the walls, Victorian prison and is also home to a copy of the 1215 Magna Carta. Being the cultural hub of the county, Lincoln is home to museums, galleries and theatres, including the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, the award-winning archaeology museum The Collection, and Gainsborough Old Hall. A scenic drive of just over half an hour will bring you to the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where you'll find rolling countryside and idyllic, green landscapes to explore, as well as quaint villages along the way. The Trent Valley Way is a long-distance walking path which follows the River Trent spanning just over 100 miles and is within easy reach of the cottage, join the path at Torksey Lock and head in either direction for a scenic riverside ramble.
