Horncastle 5.1 miles, Cadwell park 6 miles. Dating back to the 1800s, The Old Baker's Shop is approached by quiet country roads in the village of Belchford, near to Horncastle, in Lincolnshire. Being within the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, this cottage, once the original bakery in the village, is a dreamy quiet retreat, perfect for walkers and those who want to spend a peaceful break in the outdoors. The house is semi-detached, next door to the owner's home, and retains some original features like exposed, rustic beams, complimented by a quaint country-style interior. After taking off your boots and coats in the front porch, head into the cute and homely open-plan living space, where the sitting room hosts a leather chesterfield sofa and a wing-back armchair in the same style, across from the Freeview TV, you can relax here after a long country walk. Perch at the breakfast bar for mealtimes or morning coffees, overlooking the excellently designed kitchen, fitting in a wealth of appliances in this close cottage space, including a dishwasher, washing machine, induction hob and electric oven. Patio doors open out to the outdoor patio seating, with a charming picket fence separating the guest's garden from the owner's, you also enjoy your own lawn space and delightful arbor bench seat. Upstairs on the first floor is the lovely bedroom, with two single beds and wonderful fitted wooden wardrobes for storage, and a view of the village road from the window. The bathroom is a beautifully-fitted room with a large bath with shower over, in a lovely Victorian style, brightened by motion-censored spotlights fitted in the ceiling. Just a short way down the road is The Bluebell Inn, a traditional country pub serving good food, while any shopping can be done in the market town of Horncastle, around 5-miles away. Nestled between the River Bain and River Waring, Horncastle is a bustling hub, and known as the Gateway to the Wolds, home to a growing number of independent shops and boutiques, expect to walk along cobbled streets, past thatched houses and 18th and 19th century architecture. The Lincolnshire Wolds hold a great many walking and cycling routes, including The Viking Way, a 147-mile long footpath which heads past Belchford when the route goes from Donington on Bain to Horncastle, or travel along the Lincolnshire Wold Way, a circular route which keeps to high ground to provide the best views of the Wolds. The beautiful Georgian town of Louth lies on the other side of the Wolds and is a fabulous gastro delight for foodies everywhere, with weekly markets where you can sample some of the finest local produce around and a host of food shops around the town to pick up more tasty treats. The county town of Lincoln is worth a day trip to see the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle, which is home to one of the four copies of the Magna Carta, dating back to 1215. The Old Baker's Shop is a wonderful cottage to enjoy whilst you get to know this lovely area of Lincolnshire.
