House of Machrie-UK11952, Dougarie Estate, Near Blackwaterfoot, Isle Of Arran

Isle of Arran. Sleeps up to 14

This stunning property is perfect for a family celebration, with a conservatory overlooking the sea, a games room and a large enclosed garden.. Dougarie is a traditional sporting estate and working farm bringing a sustainable and modern direction to green energy production, agriculture, forestry, nature conservation and game management. It offers a multitude of activities to be enjoyed by all. As one of the most southerly of the Scottish Isles, Arran encapsulates the grandeur and majesty of Scotland, but all packaged within an accessible area 19 miles long by 10 miles wide. Your holiday adventure begins on the ferry from Ardrossan with views of Goat Fell, Brodick Castle and the spiritual Holy Isle.

The House of Machrie is a substantial, detached Victorian country house set in beautiful surroundings with fabulous coastal views across the Kilbrannan Sound to the Mull of Kintyre. Built over 100 years ago as the principal farmhouse on the island, it encapsulates Scottish architecture through the ages with crow stepped roof gables and a circular tower, which houses the main staircase. It is surrounded by mature trees to the rear and overlooks its former kitchen garden and farmland. It has been renovated and modernised to a very high standard, highlighting the charm of this stunning house. Outside there is a stone barn that has been converted into a games room with a table tennis table and a pool table amongst other things and is the perfect space to keep younger guests entertained on wet days.

Whilst you are staying at Dougarie Estate, there are a number of activities offered which guests can enjoy. Fishermen will be in their element, with fly-fishing for salmon and sea trout on the River Iorsa, mackerel fishing and lobster potting boat trips as well as private fishing tuition. Guests can also learn to shoot with both clay pigeon shooting and small-bore rifle target practise offered. Photography workshops for all levels of experience can be arranged, and for the keen chefs amongst you, salami and sausage making classes are also available. If you fancy a bit of pampering, there are two beauty therapists locally who will do home visits for nails, facials and other beauty treatments.

If you are looking for a more active holiday, there is the estate run 9-hole links course at Machrie and golf passes can be arranged prior to your arrival. There is also an all-weather tennis court at the golf club where adult and children’s rackets can be hired. If you want to get out and about, bespoke nature tours and whisky distillery tours can also be booked. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.
