Shower room: With shower cubicle and toilet.. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Initial logs for wood burner included, remainder at cost (honesty box). Travel cot and highchair available on request.. Sitting-out area with garden furniture. Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking.. Set on the edge of woodland, Maynes Lodge is privately situated just 4 miles from the charming market town of Biggar, and ½ a mile from Symington village where there is a local shop and a traditional country house hotel which serves food and welcomes non-residents. The detached, single storey cottage has a living room with a wood burner, a well-equipped kitchen/dining room and two good sized bedrooms, all furnished in a contemporary style.
There are lots of activities locally from hillwalking in the Coulter Hills or to the top of Tinto Hill for staggering 360 degree views. Cycling and trout fishing are also available. In Biggar, 4 miles, there is a Victorian puppet theatre, an excellent museum, a great arts festival in October, a mammoth bonfire in the middle of the town on Hogmanay and a vast array of independent shops and great places to eat out and enjoy locally sourced produce. There are wonderful gardens to explore at Dawyck, Kailzie and Traquair near Peebles, 22 miles, which also has a good range of independent shops and restaurants, and mountain biking at Glentress. A day in Edinburgh is easy by train from Carluke, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of New Lanark on the River Clyde is a must. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
