Rose Cottage, Upper Oddington

Gloucestershire. Sleeps up to 8

As a quick but important preamble... IF YOU WISH TO BOOK THE COTTAGE, PLEASE DO NOTE: We’d appreciate it if you could please get in touch with us first, using the 'CONTACT OWNER' button. Please DO NOT SEND A BOOKING REQUEST (the 'Request to Book' button) straight away. Even if your intended dates appear available on VRBO's online calendar, relevant information may not be apparent on the calendar (such as public holidays, minimum number of nights, ...) that may well make things less obvious than they seem. The booking process is MUCH SIMPLER for both sides if we first discuss and agree on dates by email ('Contact Owner'), BEFORE you send a formal request via this site ('Request to Book'). Many thanks in advance for your understanding. And now... ROSE COTTAGE IN A FEW WORDS: In the heart of one of the Cotswolds' premier conservation areas, Rose Cottage is a charming 18th-century cottage built with local honey-coloured limestone. It is filled with period features such as exposed beams on both floors and a traditional wood-burning fireplace in the living room. The cottage faces south, so you can enjoy the sun inside or out, in the intimacy of a pleasant garden. The house is comprehensively equipped to a high standard throughout, with many personal touches that give it a cosy feel. Curl up in front of the television with video and DVD player, settle down with a good book from the bookshelves, rummage through the chest of games or listen to music on the CD player/radio. Hand-made quilts and blankets will keep you snug, and there is plenty of wood available for the fireplace, to make it even cosier. In the kitchen, you will find everything you need for your stay, from the basics to small luxuries. One floor up, you have two bedrooms (one king, one double) with very comfortable mattresses, thick duvets and postcard vistas of the village. You also have a modern bathroom with power shower and tub (note, all linen for bed and bathroom provided). The well-maintained garden offers a table and chairs for outdoor dining. If you want, a telephone and wireless broadband will help you stay in touch with the outside world. You can get a good impression of what a stay at Rose Cottage feels like from our guests' descriptions of their own experience, in the Comments section below. The cottage is nestled alongside a calm, narrow lane, surrounded by fine Cotswold cottages and gardens, a 2-minute stroll from the Horse and Groom. The pub serves delicious meals in a very nice decor, and has a large garden terrace for sunny weather. Publicans Simon and Sally will offer you a warm welcome. Continue your walk through Upper Oddington, a 16th-century settlement tucked away from traffic and well preserved by the extensive conservation area that protects its many listed buildings and overall historical character. Strolling through the conservation area to Lower Oddington, you will find the Fox Inn, another highly-rated pub. Both the Fox and Horse and Groom benefit from an excellent reputation across the region and are recommended by the Good Pub Guide. At the very end of Lower Oddington, you will discover St. Nicholas Church, an early Norman gem, well known for its large-scale medieval doom fresco. Another 20 minutes across the fields, or 5 minutes by car, will bring you to the award-winning Daylesford Farm Shop and Cafe. For more general shopping, Stow-on-the-Wold is just 5 minutes away by car. The highest and one of the most attractive market towns in the Cotswolds, Stow offers a wide variety of specialist shops and plenty of restaurants where you can relax over a drink or meal. You will also find a large grocery store for all your holiday provisions. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the Venice of the Cotswolds, and Moreton-in-Marsh are both 10 minutes away, the popular towns of Burford and Broadway are less than 20 minutes away, and it takes around 30 minutes to reach Blenheim Palace or the elegant horse racing centre of Cheltenham. Historic Oxford is an easy 45-minute drive away. Rose Cottage is located towards the centre of the Cotswolds, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the largest in Britain, and as such makes a great base camp for walkers and cyclists alike, with plenty of maps and guides provided. You can follow footpaths starting right out of the front door, or short drives give easy access to the many other walks in the Area. Welcome to Rose Cottage. During your stay, we trust that you will enjoy a peaceful retreat and a quintessential Cotswold experience. Keywords: Cottage
