A newly restored barn dating from the early 16th century that can be booked either as one large property or as two independent cottages. The owners farmhouse and the barn are set in five acres of land above the village of Maes y Gwartha - very conveniently situated for those wishing to be close to the Heads of the Valley Road and with easy access to Cardiff or the Welsh Valleys yet still being in a delightful rural location with magnificent views over the Blorenge and Sugar Loaf Mountains. With ponies and sheep in the fields Old Rectory Barn is in the Brecon Beacons National Park yet still very close to The World Heritage Site of Blaenafon and its Industrial past. There are many superb walks straight from the door and the owner has produced a booklet of excellent walks of varying degrees of difficulty for visitor's information.

Barn accommodation

Sleeps 4/6 - 4 adults and 2 children, 2 bedrooms. This part of the barn has a large kitchen which is upstairs, newly fitted with electric hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge (washing machine and freezer down in the utility room). There is a large dining table, sofas and chairs and lovely views down the valley - the beams have been exposed giving the room a great feeling of height and light. Freeview TV with a Digi box and DVD. Wireless internet access.

Bedroom 1: with a twin beds. There is a door for access from this room to the outside garden area; the en suite "wet" shower room has a shower, handbasin and toilet.

next to the living area up a flight of stairs and is large with a great wealth of wonderful old oak beams.

Bedroom 2: Family room, with a double bed and two single beds and en suite bathroom with a bath with a shower over, handbasin and toilet.

This apartment also has a cloak room with handbasin and toilet in the entrance hall.

Bedlinen and towels provided. Electricity and full oil central heating. WifiPets welcome- sheep and ponies in the fields at times. Ample parking. The owners have converted the barn paying great attention to the fabric of the building using sustainable materials and lessening the carbon foot print; there is mains water for domestic use but they have a "rainwater harvesting system" for flushing loos etc. Solar panels help to heat the water.

The nearest village is Gilwern 1 mile, which has shops and pubs. Abergavenny 5 miles, Crickhowell 4 miles.
