Petworth serves up a perfect blend of history, culture and shopping and it is home to some award-winning food shops. So why not give your taste buds a treat by stopping off at one of the many cafés, pubs and restaurants and sample the fabulous selection of local delights. Also known as the antiques centre of the south, Petworth is home to more antique shops than any other town in the south of England.
Although mentioned in the Domesday Book, Petworth is perhaps best known as the location of the stately home, Petworth House, which houses an art collection featuring a number of works by JMW Turner. You can also take a tour around its stunning 700 acres of grounds known as Petworth Park, the works of Capability Brown. The landscaped park contains one of England’s largest herds of fallow deer. Today the house and its grounds are owned and maintained by the National Trust and are well worth a visit. Other attractions such as Arundel Castle, Parham House and Gardens, polo at Cowdray Park, Goodwood, Chichester Cathedral, Bignor Roman Villa, and the RSPB Nature Reserve in Pulborough are all within a 12-mile radius. Beach 17 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
