BeachesPopular Red Wharf Bay is only 2 miles from the cottage and the resort of Benllech only 3 miles. Benllech has a long sandy beach with plenty of rock pools, perfect for swimming, windsurfing and sea fishing. Lovely views across to Penmon Point and in the distance the Great Orme in Llandudno. Further along the coast, just beyond the delightful little fishing village of Moelfre, is Treath Lligwy another shallow sandy bay - great for small children who will enjoy pottering in the rock pools. Coastal Path The Coastal Path circles the coastline and is designated 'An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.' The path passes cliffs, sandy beaches, majestic woodlands, marshes and grasslands. Explore hidden coves and watch seals frolicking in the water's below. LLanddwyn Island and Newborough Beach Miles of pristine sands stretch from Llanddwyn Island (anglesey-history. co. uk) to the southern tip of Anglesey and is one of the finest beaches in Britain - dramatic mountain views, clean clear waters, woods and mythology. Llanddwyn Island, just 1 km long, is a 20 minute walk along beach from the car park. The island delights, wiht the sound and taste of the sea and the smell of the beautifully carved pine gates. Wander through Newborough Forest, a birdwatchers paradise with hides for quiet viewing of the abundant bird life - look out for the colony of red squirrels that flourish on Anglesey. Porth EilianNear Amlwch, this small romantic sandy bay is a hidden gem reached by a walk from the car park. Topped by rugged cliffs covered in gorse, bracken and oak trees the bay is Ideal for swimming in the shallows. Join the Coastal Path here and look out for Oystercatchers, Razorbills and guillemots. Places to eat. Nearby in Red Wharf and Benllech is 1924 Tafarn, The Boathouse Restaurant and The Ship Inn, The Coast American Diner is in Benllech as well as lots of excellent restaurants throughout Anglesey. Marram Grass Café in Newborough made it into the Good Food Guide this year, In Menai Bridge Dylan's on the quayside is recommended and Ye Olde Bulle's Head in Beaumaris is superb. Din LligwyThis is a 4th Century enclosure reached by a half a mile walk across fields. This settlement of round and rectangular huts is deeply atmospheric with remarkably well preserved stone huts. Occupied, it is thought in the late Roman period, it is well worth a visit - both children and grown ups will be fascinated and entranced by them. Plas Newydd House and Gardens (NT)The gardens of the Manor House descend to the stunning Menai Strait with views across the the wooded hillsides and mountains of Snowdonia - a unique location. Explore the extensive grounds and fascinating house, the ancestral home of the Marquess of Anglesey. This Regency period house has an interesting history, large murals by Rex Whistler adorn the walls of the formal rooms and there is a museum displaying uniforms and memorabilia from the battle of Waterloo. Boat TripsFrom Menai Bridge or Beaumaris a boat trip will take you along the magnificent Menai Strait under two famous bridges, Thomas Telfords's elegant suspension bridge and Robert Stephenson's mighty two tiered Britannia Bridge, with railway and road. great feats of Victorian engineering. BeaumarisSurely the prettiest town in North Wales with its elegant Georgian and Victorian town houses While away some time visiting its romantic castle, lovely independent shops and Victorian pier. Days awayIt's perfectly possible to enjoy day trips to the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Enjoy breathtaking scenery, exhilarating adventure activities, watersports, steam train rides, visiting historic houses and mighty castles.
