It also has exclusive fishing rights on the Douglas Water (the owner provides free fishing equipment). The cottage is light and welcoming with very comfortable contemporary furnishings, this well located holiday cottage is ideal as a base for easy access to both Edinburgh, 40 minutes and Glasgow, 30 minutes, taking under an hour by train from Carstairs, 7 miles. Nearby, visit the fascinating New Lanark World Heritage Site to find out what life was like for a child worker in an 18th-century cotton mill, or walk to the Scottish Wildlife Trust site at the Falls of Clyde. There are scenic drives, walks and cycling routes on quiet roads, and an equestrian centre, golf, birdlife and nature walks with the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway and the Ayrshire coast all an enjoyable day out. Lanark is less than 5 miles drive with shops, pubs and restaurant or take the bus from the gate, ideal for an evenin out.
