Arundel is recognised for its castle and variety of historic buildings in a small area. Out of around 500 buildings in the conservation area, many are listed. The beautiful castle is referred to in the Domesday Book in 1086, and has been occupied by the Dukes of Norfolk and their families for over 850 years. The Victorian Catholic Cathedral was designed by Joseph Hansom, who also designed the Hansom cab.
Climping Beach is only a 5-minute drive, or slightly further, Worthing, Elmer or Littlehampton. Visit Chichester, with its beautiful ornate cathedral, theatre, pedestrianised shopping, tea rooms, harbour tours, Goodwood or Fontwell racing. Also within easy reach is the picturesque harbour village of Bosham with antiques, emporium and waterside cafe, or naval Portsmouth with Spinnaker Tower, designer shopping and waterside dining.
