The Monmouth and Brecon Canal runs just above the garden at picturesque Llanfoist Wharf. Abergavenny, Blorenge Mountain and Breacon Beacons National Park. Situated at the foot of the Blorenge Mountain, a mecca for hang and para gliding enthusiasts, a footpath leads from behind the house to the top of the mountain - a very steep route but as a reward for reaching the top there are some of the best views in South Wales to enjoy! Llanfoist Boat Hire near Brecon Beacons holiday houseThe Monmouthshire and Brecon canal, with its pretty wharf is a few minutes walk away - hire a boat for the day or take the excellent towpath walk along the contours of the valley side with views of the Black Mountains beyond. The Bear Hotel CrickhowellLarge and full of historic character with wood panelling, beamed ceilings, open fires and excellent food and drink in a convivial atmosphere. Book ahead to eat in the restaurant or take a chance on finding a table in the bar. National Cycle RouteCyclists can also use the canal towpath and the National Cycle Route on the former railway line is less than a minute's cycle ride from the house. Fishing and pony trekking are available locally. Canal Barge CruisingSpend a thoroughly delightful few hours cruising along the peaceful and beautiful Brecon and Monmouth Canal by canal barge. The canal hugs the mountainside above the picturesque River Usk. Buy a ticket and hop on or Dragon Fly Cruises offer private charter for large families or friends sharing. Embarkation is at Canal Wharf, Canal Road in Brecon LD3 7EW. Abergavenny Market Town near Brecon Beacons holiday houseA fascinating market town to explore. Its Castle is one of the best examples of a mote and bailey castle in Britain with the town museum set in a former hunting lodge in its grounds and the theatre hosts a year round programme of productions. Visit the restored 12th C Tythe Barn and Food Hall. Fascinating exhibition, tapestry and delicious Welsh food and drink. Abergavenny Antique FairsMarkets are held in the Market Hall on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, a Flea Market every Wednesday and antique and craft fairs throughout the year near this Abergavenny house for holidays. World Famous Abergavenny Food FestivalThe world famous food festival takes place every September and there is a fine choice of pubs and restaurants such as the legendary award winning Walnut Tree. My favourite supermarket, Waitrose is just a 10 minute walk away. Walking in Monmouthshire Dog welcomeMonmouthshire has 1000 miles of public rights of way taking in towns and villages as well as long distance trails including Offa's Dyke Path, and the Wye Valley and Usk Valley Walks. Blaenafon World Heritage SiteBlaenafon World Heritage Site is 15 minutes drive away with its fascinating insight into the beginning of the Industrial revolution in South Wales. Llandegfedd ReservoirLlandegfedd Reservoir is an ideal venue for game fishing in 434 acres of still water stocked with rainbow trout. Permits are obtainable from the rangers office on site. Offa's Dyke Path Dog welcomeThe path runs for 177 miles from Sedbury Cliffs on the Severn estuary near Chepstow via Monmouth, Pandy, Hay-on-Wye, Kington, Knighton, Brompton Crossroads, Buttington Bridge, Llanymynech, Chirk Mill, Llandegla, Bodfari to Prestatyn. 70 miles follow the 8th C earthwork Offas Dyke. It is possible to join the path at various places including Brockweir. Sugarloaf VineyardVisit the Sugarloaf Vineyards set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with wonderful views. Tour some of the five acres of south facing vines, enjoy a coffee in the coffee shop, browse the gift shop, taste the wines and buy some to take home, even buy your own vine. Vale of UskThe beautiful river Usk begins high in the Brecon Beacons. It passes 3 mountains, Sugarloaf, Blorenge and Skirrid Fawr before tumbling out into a patchwork of open fields crisscrossed by country lanes and quaint villages. Perfect for quiet unhurried motoring, picnics, walking and bird watching, with a score of riverside hamlets and country pubs. This characterful holiday house on the edge of the Brecon Beacons makes a wonderful base for extended families or friends sharing at any time of the year.
