Located at the heart of the Lake District just above the shores of Coniston water, this historic Georgian property is awe inspiring in both its grandeur and its wonderful position. Tent lodge has welcomed and inspired many famous guests including Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome (author of Swallows and Amazons), Tennyson the Victorian Poet Laureate honeymooned here and William Turner made Tent Lodge the subject of one of his paintings. The dramatic views of idyllic Coniston Water with its backdrop of the rugged Coniston Old Man mountain range will make any stay extra special. A real treat for the active and adventurous, Tent Lodge is ideally placed to access all outdoor activities on offer in the Lake District but is equally perfect for those who just want to enjoy the peace and quiet and get away from it all . A short distance from the Western edge of Grizedale Forest, miles of walking and cycling trails are yours to explore but with shared, private shoreline on the doorstep who needs to look elsewhere for fun and excitement or rest and relaxation. Coniston village is just over a mile away and offers a range of outdoor activity providers, shops, pubs, cafes and a highly rated Bistro. The Boating Centre is a great place from which to hire boats, take boat trips on the famous Gondola (a Victorian steam yacht) and Launches or just simply feed the ducks and enjoy an ice cream. From the private driveway, you step into an oval entrance hall. The door straight ahead opens into the beautiful, expansive sitting room. Light cascades in through the vast window which frames the amazing view of the lake and mountains. A tasteful and restful room, there is a TV and an open fire for cosy evenings in. Comfortable sofas and large enough for everyone, it s the perfect room to gather. To the right from the main entrance is a 2nd hallway from which you will find the impressive dining room and the fine, original staircase, sweeping its way up to the first floor. The dining room and its huge table is not only the ideal place to enjoy grand dinners into the evening with your favourite company but is also somewhere to sit quietly with a good book. Again an open fire and spectacular views add to the ambiance. The spacious kitchen lies at the south side of the house Featuring an oil fired AGA at its heart along with a single electric oven and ceramic hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. A breakfast table sits in front of a large window, again with the magnificent lake view, and with a breakfast bar and an island this is a sociable space, well equipped and with plenty of room to prepare delicious meals. Off the kitchen is a utility room with lots of storage, washing machine, tumble dryer and a fridge/freezer. From the kitchen is a door to the porch/cloakroom which in turn leads to the yard and gardens on the lake side of the house. There is also a downstairs WC off this porch. From the kitchen area there is a 2nd staircase to the first floor. On the first floor the main staircase opens onto a landing from which there is an elegant king size room with a compact ensuite shower room, the stylish master king size bedroom with its picture perfect lake view and a gorgeous twin room. A very large shower room with a huge walk in shower, double washbasin unit and WC is directly accessed from both the master and the twin bedroom. On the kitchen staircase landing you will find a 3rd lovely king size bedroom with its ensuite WC and washbasin. There is also an opulent bathroom with a luxurious double ended Victoria and Albert bath, a walk in shower, washbasin, toilet and bidet. Two narrow staircases lead either side from this landing to pretty attic rooms. Two twin rooms, both with sloping ceilings are ideal for children and fine for most agile, able bodied adults. Outside there is lots to explore. Overlooking the lake is a large terrace and a sloping lawn, the house is surrounded by its gardens and shrubberies so it s easy to find a peaceful, private spot to sit back, admire your surroundings and while away the hours. From the garden, through a gate, a pathway crosses the meadow to the waters edge. The estate s private lake shore area which is shared with other properties on the estateis ideal for picnics, swimming and fishing for tiddlers and if you want to bring your own sailing boat there are jetties to tie up to. Perfect!
