Barn in South Wales, Abergavenny

Brecon Beacons. Sleeps up to 2

Recharge your batteries at this immaculately presented cottage for two just a mile from the vibrant market town of Abergavenny. It s an ideal base for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park while still being close to shops, culture and entertainment. The Corn Store has been very well converted from the historic storage building associated with the mill that dates back to the 17th century, and is all on the ground floor. Outside, the cottage has its own lawned garden, stone patio and separate decked area with a stone built BBQ. With so much on your doorstep, you may not need to spend much time indoors, but the well appointed, light and airy living space is perfect for unwinding at the end of the day. You can gaze out of the window while sat at the dining table as you share a romantic meal prepared with local Welsh produce. Afterwards, get toasty in front of the wood burner on relaxing evenings in the super king size bed is an especially welcome sight after long hikes in the Brecon Beacons. The pretty garden is partially shaded with conifer trees, so you can keep out of the sun on scorching summer days. It s a lovely spot to sit and relax with a glass of wine or grilled BBQ treat and listen to the sounds of the River Gavenny as it rolls down the valley to meet the river Usk. The property is in the village of Mardy, where you can pick up a fish supper from the local chippy or get any essentials you need. Or you can head into Abergavenny, known for its annual food festival, farmers markets and Norman castle. There are plenty of opportunities to get active in this part of the world as you can go walking, mountain biking, pony trekking and climbing in the national park. Also nearby is the hillside setting of the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal with beautiful views. Over the Blorenge mountain with stunning panoramic vistas, is the Blaenavon Ironworks (7.5 miles), where you can discover how the site powered the Industrial Revolution and explore the 19th century workers cottages.
