The Coach House is a lovely upside down, detached barn conversion situated in the grounds of the owner’s home along with Granary Cottage, adjacent to the historic 15th-century church in Llanrhydd, just a mile from the pretty town of Ruthin. Sleeping two people, the bedroom is on the ground floor, whilst upstairs there is a lovely spacious living room with kitchen/dining room opening off to the side. Outside is a sunny, private courtyard where you can dine al fresco, or relax with a glass of wine. To the east are the spectacular Clwydian Hills, and the Offa’s Dyke footpath, which runs all the way from Prestatyn to Chepstow in South Wales. Historic Ruthin is well worth exploring on foot, with a wide variety of individual shops and cafes which seem to tumble down the streets leading down from St Peter’s Square. Take time to visit the amazing Ruthin Gaol and learn through interactive displays how prisoners were treated. Visit the craft centre and wander around the art displays, or see some of the crafts people at work.
It’s just a short drive over the impressive Horseshoe Pass to Llangollen, home of the annual International Musical Eisteddfod which takes place in July. Here you can stroll along the River Dee, or take a trip on a horse drawn boat on the Llangollen Canal. You can also experience a bygone era on a steam train on the Llangollen Railway with a nostalgic trip along the line to Corwen. To the north are the seaside resorts along the North Wales coast, including Victorian Llandudno. With the Great Orme’s headland jutting out into the Irish Sea, here you will find the UK’s longest cable car ride, the historic Great Orme Tramway, which dates from 1902, and the scenic beauty of the Marine Drive, a toll road which takes you around the foot of the Great Orme, offering splendid views out to sea – you may even glimpse the Isle of Man on a clear day! The Snowdonia National Park and the pretty village of Betws-y-Coed are also within easy reach, great for a day out. Chester is only a 30-minute drive away and there are 4 National Trust properties within a 30-45 minute drive, including Erddig Hall, Chirk Castle, Bodnant Garddens and Penrhyn Castle. Beach 22 miles.
