Across the tiny river Alun is the ruined Bishops' Palace with its lovely decorated stonework, wheel window, halls and stairways. Restored sufficiently to fire the imagination of young and old, explore the ruined halls and stairways and let your children play while they absorb the atmosphere of this site of medieval power and influence. The Pembrokeshire Coastal PathResplendent in the spring and captivating at all times of year, the St Davids Peninsula section of the Coast Path is breathtaking - the colours of the sea and sky, the bird and wildlife, the fantastic flora - all combine to make an experience which draws visitors back year after year. St Davids Peninsula Beaches and Coastal InletsStep outside your holiday cottage, cross the road and walk the path to the beach at Porthselau – a sheltered sandy beach, with rock pools and a stream which has been the stuff of perfect summer holidays for generations of small children. To the south the path comes to Porthlysgi beach, a little beach with no access for vehicles – so seldom busy! And on further to the little harbour inlet at Porthclais – stop for an ice cream at the little hut by the car park. To the north the path brings you to Whitesands Bay, a wide expanse of soft white sand popular with surfers and families and curving north towards the rocky St Davids Head. There is a well-stocked beach shop and cafe here too! Past Whitesands the path dips down to the tiny beach at Porthmelgan and Carn Llidi 'mountain' rises up behind - climb up this rugged outcrop to enjoy the magnificent view overlooking the glorious curve of Whitesands' fine golden sands. Outdoor activities At TYF in the centre of St. Davids, a choice of activities awaits you. Whether you’re after a gentle introduction or mind-blowing adrenaline rush, TYF Adventure offers a range of thrilling activities from canoeing, coasteering, rock climbing, surfing and lots more. Activity days available for children and for families to enjoy. Solva Harbour and coastal village To the east of St Davids is the little harbour village of Solva - a real jewel of the west Wales coast. The sheltered harbour is an ideal place to sail, canoe or walk the beach or coast path. Afterwards relax and find refreshments while you visit the individual shops and galleries, pubs and restaurants that the village offers. Porthgain Village and harbourOn the north coast, the village of Porthgain was once a prosperous nineteenth century industrial harbour exporting slate from quarries at Abereiddi and Porthgain itself. The village is now popular for water sport enthusiasts - boaters, rowers, fishermen and canoeists - their activities overlooked by relics of the industrial past. The village can be busy in summer. It is on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, served by the Strumble Shuttle (the local bus service) and offers the visitor galleries and a gift shop and refreshments at the popular Sloop Inn and Shed Fish Restaurant. Golf Clubs at St Davids and PriskillyWithin a mile of the cottage is St Davids City Golf Club, the most westerly golf course in Wales. This 9 hole course with 18 tees is playable all year round - no winter greens, no winter tees, no muddy feet - and has fabulous views overlooking Whitesands Bay, Ramsey Sound and the infamous 'Bitches' stretch of water just south of St Davids Head. Priskilly Forest Golf Club at Castlemorris is a family owned 9 hole course set in mature parkland with panoramic views. Beginners and families are welcome and there is a good bar, restaurant and beautiful walks for non players. Art Galleries and craftWest Wales is famous for its artistic community - drawn in by the clear unpolluted light, uncrowded living and inspirational surroundings, there are artists, silversmiths, potters, glass makers, carvers and furniture makers - to name only a few.
